Medical Boarding Services for Cats & Dogs
When your pet needs additional support with medications, recovery, or ongoing medical monitoring while you’re away, we've got you covered. At Caring Hands Veterinary Hospital, our medical boarding program provides supervised veterinary care in a safe, comfortable environment created specifically for pets with medical needs.
Unlike traditional boarding facilities, we offer a dedicated hospital boarding suite where they can receive medication administration and treatment support, along with close monitoring throughout their stay. If your pet is recovering from recent surgery, managing a chronic condition, or requires daily medications or insulin injections, our experienced team are here to provide the attentive care your pet deserves.
Our carefully designed facility offers spacious dog runs filled with natural light, multi-level condos conveniently located near our treatment ward, and trained staff caring for your pet every day. You can travel with confidence knowing they're receiving the compassionate care they deserve.
How Medical Boarding Works
Step 1: Schedule a Medical Boarding Consultation
Before you can reserve a medical boarding stay, your pet must have a consultation with one of our veterinarians. The consultation fee is $98.55.
- Consultation appointments must be scheduled at least 2 weeks before your planned boarding stay.
- During the consultation, the doctor will: Review your pet's complete medical history
- Discuss all medications and treatments
- Determine whether your pet is an appropriate candidate for medical boarding
Step 2: Schedule Your Pet's Stay
Once approved for medical boarding, our team will help you reserve your pet's boarding dates.
Step 3: Prepare for Check-In
We request that you please bring along:
- All medications in their original, clearly labelled containers
- Enough medication for the entire stay / Your pet's food for the entire stay
- Any special instructions
- Please Note: Sunday check-ins or check-outs are not permitted.
Step 4: Your Pet's Stay
Unlike traditional boarding, medical boarding patients stay in our hospital medical boarding suite, not in our regular boarding area. During their stay our veterinary and kennel teams provide care for your pet.
- Daily care is provided by our kennel team
- Care is monitored by our medical team
- Additional treatments may be performed if prescribed by the doctor
Step 5: Required Exit Exam & Check-Out
Before going home, all medical boarding patients are required to have a veterinarian exam. The exit exam fee is $30.00.
- During this visit, the veterinarian will:
- Perform a physical assessment to determine your pet's medical status
- Evaluate the treatment record from the boarding stay to ensure medications and treatments were completed appropriately
- Advise on any recommended follow-up care if needed

Medical Boarding Fees

- Medical Boarding Consultation (Required): $98.55
- DVM Exit Exam (Required): $30.00
- Medications: $10/day (includes all medications given that day)
- Injections: $10 per injection + $9 daily biohazard fee

- What are the vaccination requirements?
Canine Vaccinations:
All dogs must be up to date on the following vaccinations:- Rabies
- Distemper/Parvo (DHPP)
- Leptospirosis
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
- Rabies
- Feline Distemper (FVRCP)

We've got everything your pet needs for a fun, recuperative and safe stay, including the following accommodations and amenities:
- Climate-controlled kennels of different sizes

- Is there a limit to the number of pets I can board at a time?
While we have a large facility that can accommodate several animals at once, our medical boarding space is limited. Please call us to discuss if you have more than one pet in need of medical boarding
Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to board family members (canine/canine or feline/feline) together.
- What time should I drop off and pick up my pet?
All pets must be dropped off or picked up during regular office hours. Reservations are recommended, especially for holidays and summer weekends. During these times, we recommend that you call 2-3 weeks in advance to increase the chance that a spot will be available.

- What should I pack for my pet?
Food: We encourage clients to pack their own food, so that your dog does not upset their stomach from having to switch their diet. If you do not have food, or your pup does well on most diets, we do offer Hill’s Science Diet brand food as our “House Food.” If you do pack your own food, it may be easier to individually pre-pack it, but we will also accept containers of food and even bags in most cases.
Medication: If your pet takes medication, please bring it along for our staff to
administer. All medication must be in its original bottle or packaging, and not portioned out.Toys & Bedding: We always provide every comfort to the pets in our care,
including fun toys and comfortable bedding. Of course, we accept toys and bedding from home as well, as it certainly can bring comfort to dogs and cats to have a slice of home with them during their stay. We do ask that everyone try to limit toys to 3 items, and bedding to 2 items, but we understand it can be very hard to choose! - May I get updates about my pet during their stay?
Yes, feel free to call us during your pet's stay for updates. If there is a problem, we will contact you via the emergency contact information you provide.
- How should I prepare for my pet's stay?
Contact us to schedule your consultation visit with a veterinarian. Once your pet is approved for a medical boarding stay we will get you scheduled. There is no trial stay for medical boarding.

Please note that, due to the nature of our accommodations, we do not accept unaltered female dogs. Pets must be up to date with all vaccinations and free of fleas and ticks to stay at our facility.
Step 2: Set your pet up for success
On the day you drop your pet off with us, there are a few steps you can take to help reduce any stress your pet may feel.
Spend some extra time with your pet beforehand, and make sure they get some vigorous exercise so they feel calm. When you arrive at our facility, stay calm, cheerful and confident during the separation.
- What do you feed animals that don't have their own food?
You are welcome to bring your pet's own food; otherwise, we offer Science Diet for breakfast and dinner to dogs and cats staying with us.
A healthy, low-allergen treat, served with an entertaining toy, for an afternoon snack is also available upon request for a low additional fee.
